Deciding to go abroad for work for the first time always raises many questions. Candidates most often wonder which sector will suit them, especially if they have no experience or language skills. The most popular options are logistics and manufacturing. That is why we decided to take a close look at how warehouse work differs from production work, to help you make the best possible decision.
Warehouse work: a fast pace and modern technology
Warehouses and logistics centres (for example for e-commerce or clothing) are for people who like to keep moving. Above all, the work involves picking orders, packing parcels and using a handheld scanner.
Advantages:
1) Time flies thanks to the fast pace.
2) You usually have more freedom and do not stand in one place all the time.
3) You do not have to lift very heavy items (in modern warehouses, trolleys and conveyors make the work easier). Keep in mind: in some warehouses (for example with food) the temperature may be lower, so warmer work clothing is required. You may also walk more than ten kilometres in a single shift.
Production work: stability and warm conditions
Factories and production plants (for example automotive, food or electronics) are, in turn, the ideal environment for people who value predictability. The work usually takes place at a production line. Your tasks may include assembling small parts, quality control or packing finished products.
Advantages:
1) You work at a comfortable room temperature.
2) Your workstation stays the same, which reduces the physical fatigue of walking.
3) The tasks are repetitive, so you quickly get the hang of them and can work on “autopilot”.
Keep in mind: line work requires concentration and good teamwork, because the pace of the line sets the rhythm of the whole shift.
Which is better to start with?
The choice depends entirely on your preferences. If you dislike routine, have lots of energy and prefer to keep moving, a warehouse will be a perfect fit. If you prefer steady manual tasks, like a warm workplace and do not want to walk a lot during your shift, choose production.
